One Stop Shop, Co. Cavan ‘B1’ Case Study
KORE Retrofit case studies offer an inside look at energy upgrade projects in real-world applications. This retrofit was part of the 2022 One Stop Shop Scheme, coordinated by KORE Retrofit and supported by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).
Case Study Details
Project Name: One Stop Shop home energy upgrade in Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan.
Products Used: KORE External Insulation, KORE Fill bonded bead cavity wall insulation, Mineral Wool Attic Insulation, KORE Floor Insulation, Aereco Demand Control Ventilation, 4KW Hitachi Heat Pump, UPVC windows & composite doors.

Achieving B1
With a Pre-BER (Building Energy Rating) of F, and a post-BER rating of B1, this deep retrofit project included in the 2022 KORE One Stop Shop Scheme is now a modern, energy efficient, comfortable and healthy home.
This F-Rated home had a primary energy rating of 403.85kWh/m2/yr, and 100.58 kg/CO2/m2/yr carbon dioxide emissions indicator.
The post works final results came in at 84.02 kWh/m2/yr for primary energy use and 20.28 kg/CO2/m2/yr for the carbon dioxide emissions indicator, resulting in an overall energy rating of B1.
Upgrading Ireland’s Housing Stock
Located in Ballyjamesduff, Co.Cavan this 1950's home was included in the 2022 KORE One Stop Shop Scheme, part-funded by SEAI, to undergo whole home energy-efficiency upgrade works. The grant provided by SEAI helped fund the energy efficiency upgrades including wall, floor and attic insulation, air-to-water heat pump, and new windows and doors. KORE Retrofit Ltd. provided project management services, design solutions, technical expertise, quality control services and full grant administration.
Breaking down the details
Wall Insulation
100mm of KORE External EPS70 Silver insulation was used on the main house, achieving a U-value of 0.15W/m2K. 300mm of KORE Fill bonded bead cavity wall insulation was used on the rear extension, achieving a U-value of 0.20W/m2K. Best practice and high quality workmanship ensured that repeating and non-repeating thermal bridges were eliminated or kept to a minimum.
Floor Insulation
165mm of KORE Floor EPS70 Silver insulation was used, with EPS perimeter strips and an 80mm screed with underfloor heating was installed over the original uninsulated concrete floor, achieving a U-value of 0.15W/m2K.
Attic Insulation
300ml of mineral wool was used, with a total of 375ml in the attic achieving a U-value of 0.13W/m2K.
Heating System
KORE installed a 4kW Hitachi air-to-water heat pump system to provide the home with reliable, trouble free, renewable heating and hot water. The existing radiators were upgraded with new low temperature radiators with temperature regulating valves.
Ventilation
Aereco Demand control ventilation was installed to provide superior indoor air quality that adjusts the rate of air exchange based on needs, including advanced settings for wet rooms such as the kitchen and bathroom.
Windows and Doors
KORE chose uPVC triple-glazed low energy windows with a U-value of 1.1W/m2K and two composite doors, front and back. The windows were set out into the insulation layer which minimised thermal bridging, as well as airtightness tape used on all windows and doors.
